We speak with our PA Lauren Molloy about her role, and how she enjoys supporting the completion of deals.
What is your current role and responsibilities? What does it entail?
I am the personal assistant to Foulger Underwood UK MD Keith Underwood. The main task is to ensure his day runs smoothly. This includes the scheduling of meetings through to supporting on assignments.
With the latter, there are a number of aspects in which I help. Firstly, it may be support to either buy-side or sell-side, undertaking tasks such as the production of Information Memorandums (IMs) and then making sure NDAs are signed with parties interested in them.
I also help other Foulgers’ team members: support with client mailings, and the writing of reports and evaluations. I support with email comms too.
I enjoy that my role is varied – I’m currently assisting with an assortment of assignments. The best bit is invoicing the client because it means a deal’s been completed! Some get close to completion but then you get a bump in the road… with deals you don’t know until the last moment that it’s going to happen for sure.
Tell us about your background prior to joining Foulger Underwood
My career has always been office-based. I really wanted to be a mum and that was my aspiration, so I didn’t have a particular career in mind. I’ve enjoyed working for smaller businesses and that has generally been in administrative and office manager-style roles, including spells in recruitment and HR. I’m normally organising something.
What interests/concerns you about the accountancy market?
I am passionate about environmental causes, so seeing the rise of ESG as a potential offering by firms is something that interests me. It’s about going beyond numbers to really show how businesses impact people and the planet. The idea of using accounting to drive transparency and sustainable decision-making aligns perfectly with my values and the causes close to my heart.
What is your life away from Foulger Underwood? Hobbies, interests, family etc.
Away from Foulger Underwood, my life is wonderfully full. I’m a mum to two incredible daughters, now 16 and 19, who continue to thrive and, happily, still enjoy spending time with me. Family time means more to me than ever; as I’ve grown older, I’ve developed an even deeper appreciation for my four siblings and our growing extended family, which recently welcomed a new little one.
I also share my days with four much-loved dogs, who keep me on my toes with plenty of walks and more vet visits than I’d care to admit. Time with friends - often in the form of early evening get-togethers - is something I really treasure.
When I’m looking to unwind, you’ll often find me at the theatre or absorbed in a good book.
